    Landing a More Complex Trick

    How do we motivate snowboarders to make the jump from a print ad to a web experience, launching them from passive brand absorption into active brand engagement?

  • Snow Code

    For this project, we created five unique QR codes for Oakley’s print ads, allowing snowboarding enthusiasts to leap into a fast-paced microsite that mirrored the brand. Users were tantalized with in-your-face video consumption and instant identification with Oakley Pro Riders, who are the Oakley brand.

  • Front side and Backside Skills

    We kicked off this project with the creation of customized, automated web page detection for a variety of mobile devices. We then implemented mobile video optimization to allow for shredding video performance within a stylish, streamlined video player design. Thousands of QR-code scans resulted in serious spikes in site traffic, and markedly-improved on-site times.

    The goal of this was to create an experience that illustrates how better life is when things move faster – especially when speed meets communication, information and entertainment.

    We enlisted four celebrity ambassadors to serve as the head of niche teams that existed as four portals on the microsite. These portals gave users a unique experience depending on which team they chose, each offering intuitive and dynamic content, related videos, and customized contests and prize packs. Users had the option to start again at the home page and choose a different team experience, which exponentially increased user interaction on the site.

    The microsite offered one-step social sign-in, Twitter feeds, weekly contests, multiple contest entry points, and ongoing updates from the ambassadors.

    Successful marketing happens when brands merge with everyday life. A national contest launched us into an important conversation involving the Latin tradition of the Quinceañera, a girl’s 15th birthday coming-of-age party.

    For this contest, we went national for maximum reach. Multi-phase rollouts allowed the experience to maintain momentum and piqué new interest. The dreamy design spoke to the spirit of Quinceañera and its significance in the Latin community.

    For this project, we created a customized CMS that incorporated robust content development, from Quinceañera-themed content and multimedia to one-of-a-kind downloads (videos, ringtones, etc.) The site featured photo upload tools and English-Spanish language toggle capability, and seamlessly coordinated complex data fields including: interactive event guides, Twitter feeds, quizzes and polls, user-generated content. The result was hundreds of contest entries and thousands of votes

Travis is a 3rd degree black belt in Pa-Kua, an ancient Chinese martial art. In fact, in his previous career Travis owned a martial arts studio where he taught Pa-Kua, yoga, tai chi & reflexology.

When Travis isn’t busy getting Chuck Norris on somebody, you’ll find him at the helm of Modal researching and architecting solutions ranging from social media strategy to completely custom digital engagements.
